GOA TRAVEL GUIDE

Money exchange
in Goa.

Cash is still useful for small purchases, transport and local services. A few simple checks make changing money calmer and easier to control.

Use authorised providers

India’s Reserve Bank states that foreign exchange should be handled by authorised dealers or money changers. For travellers, airport counters, banks and RBI-authorised money changers are the straightforward places to start. Ask for a receipt and keep it until the end of your trip.

Check the final amount

Before handing over money, ask for the final number of rupees you will receive and whether a fee applies. Do not judge an offer by the signboard rate alone. Count notes calmly at the counter and check that the receipt matches the transaction.

Carry cash thoughtfully

Do not keep all of your money in one place. Keep a small first-day reserve for transport, water, a SIM card and food, then split the rest between secure places. Bank card terms and limits change, so confirm current conditions with your bank before flying.

Avoid rushed street offers

Do not accept unclear offers from strangers or exchange cash in a hurry. If the conditions are vague, leave and use an authorised, documented option instead.
